Navigation has been temporarily suspended at two locations on the Allegheny River due to high water levels, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in an alert.

At Lock and Dam 5, located at Gilpin Township and South Buffalo Township in Pennsylvania, the river stage has exceeded 16' and is forecasted to crest at 17.1' Monday afternoon. Another crest of 16.4' expected Wednesday morning, but levels should drop below 16' by Thursday morning, the Corps said.

At Lock and Dam 8, located at Boggs Township and Washington Township in Pennsylvania, the river stage has exceeded 14.2' and is forecasted to crest at 14.5' Monday afternoon.
Another crest of 14' is expected Wednesday morning, though levels are expected to fall below 14' by Wednesday afternoon, according to the Corps.

The Corps said it will continue to monitor river conditions closely and provide updates as needed.

Navigable to milepost 89.5, the Allegheny River is a 325-mile-long tributary of the Ohio River. It is used primarily for recreation but is travelled by commercial traffic as well.
