Oil and gas service company Trendsetter Engineering, Inc., Houston, announce the first deployment of its flagship Trident 20K intervention system in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Trident 20K system was deployed from the Transocean drillship Deepwater Atlas for a two-well flowback operation at Beacon Offshore Energy’s deepwater Shenandoah project approximately 230 miles from New Orleans, in waters that President Trump has renamed the Gulf of America. Trendsetter said it wet-hopped the system between wells, reducing operational costs and saving several days of rig time. Water depths at the Shenandoah field range up to 5,500'.
Trendsetter described the launch of its first 20,000-psi open-water intervention riser system (OWIRS) as "a significant milestone" for the industry and the company, noting the Trident 20K deployment comes on the heels of Trendsetter’s delivery of the 20K production manifold and associated subsea umbilical, riser, and flowline components.
Trident said it had been working to develop and deply the industry’s first 20K OWIRS since the introduction of its Trident 15K intervention system in 2020.
"The Trident 20K OWIRS represents years of dedicated research, development, engineering, design, assembly, and testing, culminating in this groundbreaking achievement," Trendsetter said.
The system has since returned to Trendsetter for post-campaign maintenance so that it will be in a ready-to-deploy state for future operations as part of Trendsetter's fleet of rental intervention kits, the company said.
The Shenandoah floating production unit arrived on field earlier this year and is in the final stage of being hooked up and commissioned. The floater, which is expected to produce 120,000 bbls. of oil per day during the development's first phase, is scheduled to achieve first oil in June.
