International Transportation Service (ITS) has awarded a $360 million contract to The Dutra Group and GriffithCompany to redevelop the south end of PierG at the Port of Long Beach, Dutra said a news release.

The agreement, signed April 9, calls for filling the South Slip next to Berth 234, building a new wharf and upgrading surrounding backland to handle future zero‑emission cargo equipment.

The project is scheduled to begin July 2025, with a completion date set for December 2028. Dutra said it will handle waterside work, including the demolition of two obsolete wharves (Berths G227 and G235), constructing a rock dike to seal the slip, driving foundation piles, and performing electrically powered dredge‑and‑fill operations that include offloading, wick‑drain installation and surcharge placement.

Griffith will manage landside construction, casting the wharf deck and crane beam and completing all backland civil work.

The completed Project will create approximately 21 acres of new land, requiring approximately 2.6 million cubic yards of fill, dike, and surcharge material,” the ITS contract said.
